ALATHUR BROTHERS
Classical Music
The Alathur Brothers, comprising Alathur V. Sivasubramanya Iyer and Alathur S. Srinivasa Iyer, revolutionized Carnatic vocal duets in the early 1930s. Despite not being biologically related, their musical synergy and exceptional talent defined their performances. Sivasubramanya Iyer, known affectionately as ‘Subbu,’ hailed from the esteemed lineage of Alathur Venkatesa Iyer, a disciple of the great Thyagaraja. The Alathur Brothers captivated audiences with their disciplined and evocative renditions of classical compositions and complex Pallavis, blending intricate laya patterns with aesthetic sensitivity.
