National Technology Day is celebrated every year on May 11th in India to recognize and honor the achievements of Indian scientists, engineers, and innovators in the field of science and technology. The day commemorates a landmark event in Indian history — the successful nuclear tests conducted at Pokhran in 1998. May 11, 1998, is a defining day in India’s technological history. On this day, India conducted five nuclear tests under Operation Shakti at Pokhran, Rajasthan. Led by the late Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam, these tests established India as a nuclear power, changing its strategic position globally. The successful demonstration of nuclear capability, along with indigenous developments in aerospace and missile systems, marked India's progress in self-reliant science and defense technology.
